Chamber of Commerce.
A Mr. Hammond had the community surveyed and laid out in 1827 and he named it Hammond's Port.
The community is also known as the Cradle of Aviation because of Glenn Curtiss who built a kitelike plane called the June-Bug and flew it on 4 July 1908.  He was also famous for building and riding motorcycles.

Glenn Hammond Curtiss
Hammondsport, Cradle of Aviation, is the birth and final resting place of Glenn Hammond Curtiss: aviation pioneer; lead designer and pilot of the June Bug, first official public exhibiton of a one kilometer flight;  holder of pilots license number one; father of
