History & History Related Items Mount Morris history: Mount Morris was named for Robert Morris, who lived during the American Revolution. This area was known for bad flooding along the Genesee River. A dam was built in 1827, but it soon washed away. Later, in 1952, Mount Morris Dam was built, the largest east of the Mississippi.
