Hicksville Historical Events
1996, August 31On August 31st, 1996 a local Martial Arts school, which has now closed it's doors, was awarded the number one ranked competitive school in the Professional Karate Commission and the American Mid-West Karate Association. Master Steven M. Franz, a then world champion accepted the honor on behalf of all the Hicksville residents. This event launched Hicksville, Ohio into the Martial Arts world with a bullet. For the next two years the Bushido-Kan Karate Academy was rated in the best of the nations schools, never falling out of the top ten. Hicksville, Ohio is now a common name among the national Martial Arts circuit whenever the school name is mentioned. Hicksville was so proud of this event that newspaper coverage and several letters praising Master Franz poured into the local karate school. Bushido-Kan Karate was the smallest school in the nation to ever win such a great title and it has been recorded into history in many great Martial Arts publications.
