1995
Rafting Contest Winners
One of the major events that Milan frequently holds is the "Milan Melon Festival" which is held during labor day weekend. There is a fairly large square in which various attractions, games, food booths, etc...can be found. There is a parade every year and afterwards the Shriners give out ice cream bars to everyone. There is a queen's contest and other events to pass the time. One such event is the river raft race in which I competed around 1995. What once was the Erie canal flows through Milan and what is left makes for great canoeing or innertubing.
In order to celebrate some famous guy that I don't remember, the city mayor, Tom Bickley, commissioned Milan residents to build rafts and have a race down the river. Myself, Adam Landoll, and Fritz Berkemuler won the race.
