History & History-related items
The original town of Portland was settled in the 1790's. The town grew
in size to over 200 structures, but the floods of 1913 and 1937
destroyed a lot of the town. The people decided to move the town onto
the hill overlooking the original site. That is today's Portland. There
are only three or four houses left in "Old Portland."
