Racine, Ohio Historical Events

Early 1900's through 1972
My Grandfather was Raymond Byers. He was the local barber in Racine for many years. He was born there and he died just a few feet from where he was born. He is buried at Great Bend Church along with many members of my family. I have pictures of the flood that hit early in the 1900's. During the late 30's, my aunts, uncles and my mom left the area and moved to northern Ohio to find work. My grandmother, Florence, died in 1946 and, in 1948, my uncle Delmar died of T.B. He is buried at Great Bend. My family, what's left of them, gets together and talks about all the old times and the wild times. The floods, the hard times and being very poor. The illness that swept through and how they survived. My grandfather lived till 1972. His barber shop is still there, but is used by somebody for storage. I hope this little town with all its history survives. It has seen hard time before, I hope it hangs on.
