The city of Tallmadge was founded by David Bacon and named after a man that never set foot in the town.

Tallmadge has the most churches per person in the United States.

An Akron abolitionist stormed the federal arsenal armory at Harper's Ferry and was later hanged. (1859). The name of this early rebel was John Brown. His home is a tourist attraction in the Akron area.
