History & History Related Items Tipp City history: John Clark came here in 1840 and set about creating a city along the Miami-Erie Canal. He eventually sold lots and required that no homes were made of logs. Because of this rule, many of the original homes still stand today. The name came from the Presidential campaign slogan of William Henry Harrison, "Tippecanoe and Tyler, too!" Clark wanted to honor Harrison and called the city Tippecanoe. The word, city, was added later until 1938 when the name was again changed. This time, it was shortened to Tipp City. Try this history page for the city.
