Off the main highway in Asher is a roadside marker that marks the spot where the Chisholm Trail ran through town and also the ruins of the Jesse Chisholm Trading post are still visible.
Asher has only one school k-12 at Asher School. There are also many old houses from the Oklahoma land rush that are still standing, but many are uninhabitable.
Asher, Oklahoma was named for the Asher family, and the Kentucky community
of Asher, Ky, in East Kentucky, along with a member of the Asher family who
helped found the community. Members of the family were in Jamestown
Plantation, Va., Wilmington, NC, and elsewhere prior to the westward
expansion. Asher, Davasher. and other variant spellings. Relatives to the
Ashers include the Powhatans, Cherokees: Chief Red Bird of Southeast,
KY, and European immigrants who married into Cherokee Tribes.
