Calvin Historical Events

Remembrances of Calvin from Opal Cobb Rich
One of my first interesting remembrances in Calvin was going to school in the school wagon. I was 1st. grade and 5 years Old That was in 1922. The school wagon traveled about six miles and picked us up at the end of the lane leading to our house. My older brother, Buster, and my older sister, Zora, were on the wagon too. The School Wagon was full of kids, probably 10 or more. The school wagon was a covered wagon like the pioneers drove .It was covered with a wagon sheet stretched over bows to keep the rain and sleet and snow off. Some times, one of the boys would get out of line, The driver would put a chain around the boys ankle and chain him up front with him. The school wagon took us to the red brick Ward Building, on the hill in Calvin. I went to High school in the High school along side the Ward building. I was there for my Freshman and Sophomore Years. We came to California in 1932.
