Two other names were tried before a group of citizens asked the US Post Office Department for the name of "Dacoma (Dakoma)."

Dacoma was another of those small railroad towns, this time from the "Frisco Railroad." Though the railroad was responsible for getting the town going, it was the area's fertile wheat production which helped it grow.
