Here is a description of the area written on 7 March 1778 by Captain James Cook on his way from Hawaii while searching a passage to the Atlantic Ocean, "On March 7, 1778, about 10 miles off the Central Oregon Coast, Captain James Cook obsereved:"The land appeared to be of a moderate height, diversified with hills and vallies, and almost everywhere covered with wood. There was, however, no very striking object on any part of it, except one hill, whose elevated summit was flat."

Attractions
A small community on the Oregon Coast. There are many great tide pools to explore during the low tide. You might even find some fossils! The area is not far from the Devils Punch Bowl State Park.
