In 1851, a man named Aaron Rose platted the townsite of "Deer Creek." At this time, the county seat was located in Winchester. But in 1854, an election moved the county seat to Deer Creek.
It wasn't until 1857, three years later, that the town was officially platted. It was at this time that the town of "Deer Creek" was renamed "Roseburg." (Submitted by Brittney Handley, High Desert Middle School)
