From 1864 until the stone house was built in 1872, a log cabin built by Jonathan Keeney was the stopping point for travelers coming into the Vale area. The word, Vale, means "valley" and was chosen for obvious reasons when the post office in Vale was opened. A school was opened in 1887. Vale was incorporated in 1889. Vale was chosen to be the county seat in 1955, but this was just the final ending to a fight that went on for 65 years.
Here is a brief history for Vale.

Vale Oregon Murals
An Outdoor Gallery Reflecting Our Heritage
twenty-three murals grace the buildings in Vale with larger than life size cut-out metal murals at the east and west entrances to town. Cut-out metal murals will be installed at the north and south entrances to town. The on-going plan is to paint three or four additional murals every year, with an eventual goal of 30 murals.
