History & History Related Items Armagh history: A group of eight families came to this area in August 1792. They were from the Irish counties of Armagh, Antrim and Ulster and were led by James and Margaret Jane Graham. Margaret was married to Lord William Parker. After his death, she married the caretaker of the estate, Mr. Graham. They left due to social pressures against their marriage. The community was surveyed in 1880 by Joseph McCartney. The first post office in Indiana County was established here in 1805. The postmaster was Thomas Kerr. Armagh was chartered as a borough on 10 April 1834. The name, Armagh means "the field on a hill."
