Classes were dismissed at lunch-time for 1 hour, during which time students were expected to walk home for lunch. It took me approximately 15minutes to make the journey which was probably just under one mile. The 8th grade graduating class annually held a class play and dance prior to graduation. During my tenure, the community of Braddock Hills graded the land beside the school and built a ball field on which the Braddock Hills Little League played. In the school during assembly, the 3rd and 4th grade classroom walls could be raised and this former classroom space was turned into an auditorium. I remember long after I left the school, my brother who was 10 years younger than me, accompanied by my mother, attended a classical concert. My sister was still attending at the time. When the orchestra played the William Tell Overture, my brother burst out with enthusiasm ""HI, Oh, silver, Away", to the delighted glee of the students and chagrin of the teachers and other adults.
I am told there is a Vietnam War Memorial in front of the school honoring those Veterans who served that war - I also understand that I am listed on that memorial. The school is no longer in use as a school but does continue to serve the community as a police station - in my opinion it should be a historical landmark.
