History & History Related Items Northampton history: Formed in 1909 when Alliance was re-named. Alliance was formed several years earlier in 1902 when Stemton, Newport and Siegfried were merged. The town was originally settled by people of the Mennonite sect but is made up of people of Hungarian, Ukrainian, Austrian, German, Polish, and Slovak ancestry. The settlement's founder, John Siegfried, operated a tavern, store and ferry on the banks of the Lehigh River.
