Tri-County Interagency Consortium (TCIC)
Phone: 610-705-3303 Tri-County Interagency Consortium (TCIC) is a nonprofit social service agency that has two major purposes: (1) coordinating community health and social services and (2) providing information & referral about these services. TCIC's service area includes western Montgomery, southeastern Berks, and northern Chester Counties. TCIC's "Where to Turn Guide" provides a listing of those services at www.owmlaw.com/Agencies.htm

In the fall of 1998, the TCHP (TriCounty Health Partnership) learned about Search Institute's Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth model. The Search Institute's survey clearly demonstrated that the greater number of assets a child possesses, the greater the likelihood that child will thrive in school and in health, and conversely, avoid high-risk behaviors leading to such problems as alcohol/other drug abuse and violence. We also gave our initiative a name - BUSY, for "Building Up Strengths in Youth." BUSY has become established as a powerful positive force within our community, and has aligned with neighboring HC-HY communities. We are providing widespread regular weekly exposure to the 40 developmental assets (via newspaper and now, newsletter articles). Our youth are involved in development and implementation of the assets approach through TCHP's Adolescent Task Force. We have a fantastic website that is linking locally and nationally to related sites (www.busyinitiative.com). Community programs and agencies (such as the YMCA, Salvation Army, Family Center, and Parks & Recreation) have adopted and are implementing the assets approach.
To date, our most successful project has been the "Photo of the Century," including the development of a 60-minute documentary that informs the public about BUSY and the Search Institute's Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth 40 Developmental Assets concept. We are also thrilled with the success in publishing weekly newspaper articles in The Mercury, which is doing much to not only promote the 40 Assets, but to also promote individual responsibility, a sense of personal empowerment, good will, and community unification.
