Ryde average annual precipitation is 39.1 inches per year. Return to Index History & History Related Items Ryde history: A small settlement was known as Shank's Run after the stream nearby. Before that time, it was named Mannayunk, but the name was too hard to say, write and spell, so was changed. It was called Mannayunk Station at least as far back as 1877. It was renamed again to Ryde mostly to help the Railroad have with a name that fit more easily on signs and timetables. During the late 1800's there was a railroad siding there where the engines were cleaned and taken care of. Many of the local products, bark and lumber from the forests, were loaded onto rail cars here in Ryde. The railroad was a big part of Ryde history. Pictures of trains at Ryde.
