Boiling Springs, South Carolina
Boiling Springs is mentioned in the "Memoirs of Tarleton Brown, a
Captain in the Revolutionary Army." Tarleton Brown's father's family lived at
the Big House in Boiling Springs, which, at the time of his writing, now
belonged to Colonel Hay. British troops attacked the homes of those in area of
Boiling Springs. Tarleton mentions one of its residents, Adam Wood, as
having been killed in the raid. Tarleton and his family evacuated the Big House
and were saved. Tarleton rode through the night, and the swamps to warn
Captain Vince and his force of 25 men at the Continental Army headquarters on
the Savanna River that the Red Coat battalion of 150 men were coming.
