History & History Related Items Chesterfield history: Chesterfield is home to two National Register Historic Districts with buildings dating back to the late 1700's and early 1800's. The community was established in 1785 as the seat of Chesterfield County. The First Secession Meeting prior to the Civil War was held in Chesterfield on Nov. 19, 1860 -- a monument on Main Street marks the location. Chesterfield attractions: Craig Park is located in the downtown area -- known as Olde Towne Centre -- and features a playground, amphitheater, picnic facilities, walking trails and a community meeting house.
