Great Falls used to be a bustling town in the 60's and 70's, but after the close of the JP Stevens textile mills, it turned into just another Southern Railroad/Textile mill town that was struggling to survive. On the Bright Side, Great Falls has traditionally had some of the best athletic teams in all of South Carolina. In 1991, The Red Devils won fifteen games, lost none, and captured the SC div A state championship, that following fall, the basketball team followed suit and captured the state championship as well.
