Salley Miscellany
Chitin Festival
Incidentally, Salley could aptly be called THE CHITERLING {'CHITLIN'} CAPITOL OF THE USA. I can vividly recall attending this annual event at least a half-dozen times with my Army Buddies & partaking of Chitlins. I believe it's held on 1st Sat > Thanksgiving--over 10,000 LBS.of these morsels are consumed. They are cleaned & semi cooked (blanched) the day before. There is a MardiGras atmosphere, arts & crafts, dancing in the streets, having TV coverage, esp., of the big parade. As many as 50,000 people in attendance in approx. 450 population community. Why not motor to Salley, SC & enjoy the activities. In our visit I didn't have to scrape the corn out of a single chitlin.
