2005, March 20
On 20 March 2005, our family patriarch, Mr. Allen Garner, Sr. was blessed with 105 years of longevity. In recognition of this magnificent milestone, we honored him with a "special celebration."

1998, November 29
The Ruby Davis Epps Appreciation Service included a biography of the honoree:
Ruby Davis was born in Timmonsville, S.C. to proud parents - the late Buster S. Davis and Janie Davis. She has Two Brothers, Wilbert and Robert. At an early age she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church and continues to serve faithfully. She was educated in the Timmonsville Schools. She was a graduate of Morris College, Sumter, S.C. with a B.A. degree in elementary education. She later became certified in mathematics. Her teaching career began in Bishopville, S.C. in 1951 as an elementary mathematics teacher until 1975. In 1976-1981 she taught Title One Mathematics in Bishopville Middle School. She was Presented many plaques for outstanding services rendered in various capacities in Lee county School District One, Ruby stated that her work in Lee County was a rewarding experience in mathematics, sports, with students and teaching in general. Ruby Epps retired from Bishopville Middle School in 1981. She continued to attend the sports events there, later she became involed in sports events in her hometown of Timmonsville. In spite of her involvement with the school and other people, she took care old ailing husband and mother. Mrs. Epps has been a Florence Nightingale to the entire community of Timmonsville. She helps and serves with no exceptions of race or age. She enjoys helping the elderly or the sick as well as working with youths in the community and extended communities. Her dedicated service is out of love for people, not for fame.

1909, March 27
Richard Jesse White was born in Timmonsville, SC March 27, 1909. He attended school there. His mother was Modena Hill-White and father was General Harley White. He had seven brothers & sisters...Henry, Harry, Ira, Marvin, Marie, Sophie, and Ada. He left Timmonsville and settled in Brentwood, Long Island, NY. Here, he and his brother, Marvin, opened a Texaco service station until the War called them both to the South Pacific where Richard served as an Army Engineer constructing airstrips, etc. He returned to Brentwood and raised a family of four children and retired at the age of fifty two. Upon retirement, he and his wife Dorothy moved to Lady Lake, Florida. In 1993 at age 74 it was necessary for Richard to be placed in a nursing home due to Alzheimer's disease. It is reputed that the White family (the Hill family/Richard's mother) owned a good part of Timmonsville back in the early days. Richard passed away in 1997 with his family all around him...during his stay in the nursing home he was able to "wander" several times until the staff became aware of his longing to return to Timmonsville and the life that he knew there. He is sorely missed.

20 March 1900
Mr. Allen Garner, Sr. was born on March 20, 1900 to Emma Garner in Timmonsvile, South Carolina. He was reared in Darlington, South Carolina, with the aid of his grandmother, Dinah Garner. On 17 November 1928, he met and married Inez Marcus (now deceased) of Darlington, South Carolina. They enjoyed 65 years of Holy Matrimony. They began their family and later relocated to Red Springs, N.C. where they worked as sharecroppers. Their family continued to grow, and they were blessed with seven (7) children and raised eight (8) grandchildren. They also assisted with the care of other grandchildren and led a Mission of Caring and Sharing among friends, neighbors, church members, and strangers.

Although they were not highly educated, they recognized and endorsed the importance of obtaining a good education and supported the efforts financially. As sharecroppers, they provided work opportunities to other families, so they could be diligent, hardworking and self-supportive. Their Godly wisdom, principles and high standards for Christian and moral living touched and changed the lives of many.

They raised their own livestock, and planted large vegetable gardens. They were not rich, but they exercised the principles of Faith, honesty and giving which made the difference in many lives. They provided support to many families that were dysfunctional, less fortunate, and bereaved. Their home was a haven of love, peace and rest for the displaced, sick, widows and "vacationers."

Presently (3-2005) his family consists of 6 children (7 spouses), 27 grandchildren (22 spouses, 46 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, 2 sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Garner shares his home with his daughter and granddaughter. He has a strong will and sound mind. He loves to pray and sing and Praise the Lord! He receives others in his home to pray for them. He enjoys listening to gospel messages and music on the radio, viewing nature from his favorite chair, sharing events from his childhood days and talking on the telephone to family and friends.
