The area was first settled in 1868 when Czech immigrants began to arrive. Most of the later settlers later came to this same area. The new settlers wanted a better life in America and began to work hard for their new community. Since they were a religious group, one of their first concerns was the establishment of a church here. The first church was completed in 1874 and made of chalk rock. With the growing population, the church was soon outgrown and a red brick church was built in 1898. St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church is still the only church in this small town. Life here centers around the parish activities and functions.
