History & History Related Items

Abernathy was founded in 1909 when, as with many prairie towns, the railroad came to town. The Santa Fe Railroad went from Plainview to Lubbock at that time. Abernathy was named for M.G. Abernathy who helpd establish the town. Eventually, the town was incorporated in 1924.
