In 1900, the new Rock Island Railroad survey showed a future station site at this point. Though designated as such in 1900, the site didn't really develop into a town until about 1908. Route 66 went through this area and was good for the local economy. Adrian was at the midpoint of the route with 1139 miles to both Los Angeles and to Chicago. Though the more modern interstate bypasses Adrian, many like to stop off in town and reminisce of the heyday of the old Mother Road, Route 66.
Here is a history page for the area.
