When the Texas and Pacific Railroad opened a line connecting Ft. Worth and Weatherford in 1879, the first stop in the county was called Parker Station. When confusion over mail delivery occurred, the little town was told to get a new name. The name was changed in 1882 to Aledo, the hometown in Illinois of one of the railroad officials.
