1962, November 1
Texas Highway Department Worker Killed
November 1, 1962, Billy Wayne Newkirk was discovered dead around 4 pm. He had been working alone, and appears to have been packing up for the day loading a tractor onto a trailer. Somehow, the tractor seems to have come loose, rolled off the trailer, and crushed Mr Newkirk against a dump-truck parked behind. Apparently, Mr Newkirk was killed instantly. Billy Wayne Newkirk was 32 years old, lived in Weatherford, and was a lay preacher at several churches in the area. He was survived by his wife, Willie B. Minor-Newkirk, and four children, Robert, Paul, Vicki and Jackie.
