The original town site was part of a large tract served by the San Solomon Springs. The town was founded by promoters in 1906. The famous springs are the center of the Balmorhea State Park

Attractions
Balmorhea State Park about four miles from the community. Opened in 1968, the park is located on 45.9 acres with a spring fed swimming pool. It also features bathhouses, historic adobe motel rooms, picnicking, camping and even scuba diving in the 25 foot deep pond.
