History & History Related Items Blackwell history: This area was first known as James or Jamestown in 1906, but later that same year, it was renamed for an Orient Railroad stockholder named Blackwell. The post office was opened in March 1907 with the first school opening in 1907 also. The Blackwell Rural consolidated High School opened in 1929 with many other businesses and churches also opening during this time.
