History & History Related Items Corrigan history: Though the area was settled before 1881, it was at this time that the Houston, East and West Texas Railway was finished in the area. The name came from Pat Corrigan, who was the conductor of the first train which came through upon completion of the line. The Trinity and Sabine Railway came though the next year in 1882. Because of these rail connections, the community attracted new businesses and residents. By the end of 1882, there were seventeen sawmills in the area. But Corrigan also developed other aspects of its economy. This diversification helpd the town to maintain even when the lumber industry hit its periodic rough spots.
