Plans for a railroad from Dallas to Cleburne in 1881, led to the establishment of Duncanville. The railroad, named the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railroad Co. had been a contributor to the settling of many Texas towns. This area was first called Duncan Switch. In 1882, the name was changed to Duncanville when the post office was opened.
