Fort Worth history: Settled in 1849 as an Army post to protect the citizens from the Indian attacks. It became the last major stop on the legendary Chisholm Trail, growing larger with all the people who followed the trail and then stayed. Fort Worth eventually became the second largest livestock market in the country. With the discovery of large oil fields in West Texas, Fort Worth grew even more, now being one of the great metropolitan areas in Texas.
