History & History Related Items Fredericksburg history: Fredericksburg was settled in 1846 by a group of families from Germany. Their leader was John O. Meusebach. The German influence is strongly seen to this day in the area. Many of these older buildings are listed as part of a National Historic District. German is still spoken often here and many of the old customs are still followed. Fredericksburg is the birthplace of Chester W.
