History & History Related Items Glen Rose history: settled in 1849, Glen Rose was first a trading post. It's site, at the Paluxy and the Brazos Rivers, helped the area grow. Local limestone riverbeds have the tracks of dinosaurs from millions of years ago. The town, itself, was named by Mrs. T.C. Jordan in 1872. Previously, it was known as Barnard's Mill for Charles Barnard, an early settler in the county. Mrs. Jordan named is Glen Rose because the glen and wild roses near her home there reminded her of her Scottish homeland. By 1900, the area had become a popular recreation area. The scenic area also had a draw in the sulphur water wells.
