Groves average annual rainfall is 52.7 inches per year History & History Related Items Groves history: Groves was founded in 1916 by the Griffing Brothers from Port Arthur. It was originally part of a track platted by John Warne Gates several years before. The track was first called Pecan Grove, but the name was shortened to "the Groves" by 1921 when it was taken over by the Port Arthur Land and Development Company. It was incorporated in 1952. The city had a difficult time during the economic troubles of the early 1980's due to the fall of oil prices at the time. Here is a history page for Groves.
