Highland Park history:

Some Texas Rangers camped along the "creek with all the turtles" in 1837 becoming the first Anglo-Americans to come into the area that would later become Highland Park. The name began to form around 1890 when a Colonel Exall called his area lomo alto or high land. The town incorporated in 1913. In keeping with the park in its name, the original city plan calls for 20% of the developed land to be reserved for parks
