First known as French Settlement in the mid-1800's for the French family that lived there. Later, in 1881, the name was changed to Garza. No one really knows why the change was made. Then, the name was changed to Lake Dallas in the late 1920's. The population increased quite a bit when the Garza-Little Elm Reservoir began to be used. Finally, after a nine year legal fight, the city of Lake Dallas was incorporated in 1965.
