History & History Related Items

The Texas Townsite Company bought the land where Lott is located now in 1889. When the railroad came through the next year, the town was founded and named for Uriah Lott, the president of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway. Lott was incorporated later on in 1890. At the time it had about 200 residents. The town grew rapidly having over 1,200 people near the end of the 1800's. Growth continued through the first part of the 1900's. But, when the Great Depression of the 1930's came the town had difficult times. The bank closed in 1933 and many in town lost everything. Government programs aided many families in Lott while others had to rely on government relief to get by. The railroad left the area in 1967 when the tracks were abandoned between Waco and Rosebud.
