Maypearl was purportedly named for the daughter of one of the International-Great Northern Railroad executives. The railroad came through what would become Penelope in Hill Country in 1902 and it was named for the railroad president's daughter. Then, the railroad came through Eyrie in 1903. The town was renamed for the two daughters of one of the other officials, May and Pearl. The word "Eyrie" means large, open bird's nest. Others say the name was for the wife of one of the officials. Her name was Pearl and when they found there was already a Pearl, Texas, they added her full maiden name, May Pearl.
The area remained fairly stable throughout the early to mid 20th century. The population remained around 350-400 and the town stayed viable during the Great Depression of the 1930's.
In 1914, the town of Maypearl became the City of Maypearl
