Each year on Columbus Day weekend, the traditionalbeginning of the Big Bend Region of Texas' tourist season, Sandersonholds the colorful "Prickly Pear Pachanga" to celebrate its traditionsas the "Cactus Capital of Texas" The Pachanga (a Spanish word meaning party), includes a daytime artsand crafts fair, an evening gala dinner with soft music on the CourtHouse lawn featuring foods and drinks derived from or made with cacti, the crowning of a Cactus King and Queen, and an evening dance.
