1947, 16 April
One of the nation's worst industrial accidents happened in Texas City, Texas on the gulf coast. At 9:12 a.m. April 16, 1947, the liberty ship, S.S. Grandcamp, exploded. The blast shattered windows as far away as Beaumont, a city nearly 200 hundred miles away. The tremor registered on a seismograph in Denver,Colorado!
