History & History Related Items Webster history: Here is a history page for Webster. English colonists were brought to the area by James W. Webster in 1879. The little settlement was first known as Garden Town. By 1882, the first post office was opened and named Websterville, after founder James W. Webster. Webster was a village until it was incorporated in 1958. The area grew by leaps and bounds during the 1960's when the Johnson Space Center opened. Webster attractions: Known as the gateway to the NASA and Galveston Bay area. Webster has a shopping area known as the "Webster Gateway." It has many places to eat and to be entertained as well as retail stores, businesses and hotels. Return to Index
