History & History Related Items Kaysville history: The first settlers of Kaysville were Hector C. Haight, Samuel Oliver Holmes, William Kay, John Hyrum Green and Edward Phillips. The settlement, first known as Kay's Ward after William Kay, was built in 1850. Kay became the first Mormon Bishop in that community. He left the area in 1856 to serve a church mission in Carson Valley, Nevada. At that time, some of the community members wanted to change the name to Freedom. When the request was not acted upon further, the name remained. March 15, 1868 became an important date for Kaysville when it became the first community to incorporate in Davis County and the 27th community in the territory to do so.
