Magna, Utah Historical Events

1874, March 28
My great, great grandmother was Naomi Taylor Coon, daughter of Samuel B. and Eliza West Taylor, pioneer residents and was supposedly the first child born in Magna, Utah on March 28, 1874. Her parents came to Magna when there were just a few families living on farms, taking up land by the Homestead process. Their first home was a log cabin cut from trees in the Cottonwood Canyon. I have received this information from a newspaper clipping as well as some sort of newsletter, it looks like, from the Oquirrh Stake. The first school she attended was also the church house, a little log cabin. She lived to be 95 years old and I believe lived in Magna her entire life. It is documented that she remembered Brigham Young, watching them build Saltair and gathering choke cherries up Coon's Canyon.
