Manti, Utah Historical Events

2002 September 8
Manti took a direct hit from an F2 tornado on 8 September 2002. Very few tornados touch down in the entire state of Utah each year. This tornado lasted about 15 minutes on the ground doing around $2 million in damages. Luckily, no one was injured or killed in the storm.

1875
The historic Manti City Hall began construction in 1875. However, due to lack of funds, the building was built in stages. Each stage was built as the people of Manti had enough money to do the project. The first usable room was finally finished in 1882 and was used by the City Council. The building was used as the City Hall until 1986. It stood empty for several years until June of 2002 when restoration began. Donations and grants were received and hundreds of hours were donated to work on the building which is listed on the National Historic Register.
1850, Spring
The first settlers in Manti found a large rattlesnake den in town. They killed 300 snakes the first day!
