Roosevelt Community News
I need to locate a name I believe is from Roosevelt, Utah. This name was on dog tags found on the Island of Guadalcanal. I have all the information as found on these dogtags. A name, presuming it to be next of kin, was Crissie Campbell, Roosevelt, Utah. The name of the owner of these dog tags, on the dog tags, is James C. Campbell, 19010739 T41 I have the name of the person who sent this information to me. He can be reached by e-mail. The serial number of James Campbell indicates he was in the National Guard. I do not have a way to discern the state, although it seems it may have been Utah. James's
serial number; 19010739, is quite similar to my own; 19010792 I was with the 145th. Field Artillery, which was in Provo, Utah.1940. This unit was on its way to the Philippines about the time
Pearl Harbor was attacked. They were turned back to Pearl Harbor. By chance, I saw their telephone number on our switchboard. I called to verify they were the same unit, and talked to a person I knew from Provo. I had been at Pearl Harbor for ten months prior to the Japanese attack. My organization was Coast Artillery, Harbor defenses of Pearl Harbor. Your suggestions are welcomed. I have another six or so dog tags, not in Utah, to try to locate. Why these tags were found on Guadalcanal, I cannot venture a guess. A person from New Caledonia found them and notified another man who told of this finding. I located them on the internet. One was identified as having been buried in Honolulu. Perhaps the Punch Bowl This is located north of the city of Honolulu, and is a memorial Cemetery. I tried to trace one from Georgia, with no response. I hoped it might be possible to find someone here in Utah to learn if this man was interred someplace known to the family. Why the tags were not with the bodies, is open to conjecture.
If anyone has any information, please contact me by email.
Thanks, Vernon E. Taylor
