Vernon history:

Joseph Vernon was killed by an Indian as he was cooking over his campfire. Not long afterward, a small group of pioneers came into the area and began to farm and raise livestock. A special feature of the area is the old school house where the younger children are still educated. It has a steeple with a bell that is still used today.
