It was once the county seat of Washington County and was also the site of the Cotton Mill. The historic Cotton Mill still stands today and has been restored. The Cotton Mill is now used as a hall and meeting place. It was settled in 1857 by pioneers sent by Brigham Young to the Cotton Mission of Southern Utah. Two groups came initially under the leadership of Samuel Adair and Robert Covington. Washington was named for our country's first president, George Washington.
